The Grace Filled Tongue
 What is the most powerful weapon of all?
 Guns? Bombs? Nuclear arms?
 No – it is the human tongue.
 Power for tremendous good – or evil.
 We must closely guard our tongues.
 Likewise the tongue is a small part of the
body, but it makes great boasts. Consider
what a great forest is set on fire by a small
spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of
evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts
the whole person, sets the whole course of
his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by
hell.
 One misuse of the tongue is through lying,
deception and deceit
 Psalm 52:4 -- You love every harmful word,
O you deceitful tongue!
 "Beware of your friends;
do not trust your brothers.
For every brother is a deceiver,

and every friend a slanderer.
 5 Friend deceives friend,
and no one speaks the truth.
They have taught their tongues to lie;
they weary themselves with sinning.
 6 You [b] live in the midst of deception;
in their deceit they refuse to acknowledge
me,"
declares the LORD.
 Therefore each of you must put off
falsehood and speak truthfully to his
neighbor, for we are all members of one
body.
 Romans 16:18 -- For such people are not
serving our Lord Christ, but their own
appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they
deceive the minds of naive people.
 With persuasive words she led him astray;
she seduced him with her smooth talk.
 All at once he followed her
like an ox going to the slaughter,
like a deer stepping into a noose
 Let your conversation be always full of
grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may
know how to answer everyone.
 Psalm 10:7 -- His mouth is full of curses
and lies and threats;
trouble and evil are under his tongue.
 Psalm 34:13 -- keep your tongue from evil
and your lips from speaking lies.
 But now you must rid yourselves of all
such things as these: anger, rage, malice,
slander, and filthy language from your
lips.10:7 -- His mouth is full of curses and
lies and threats;
trouble and evil are under his tongue.
 But now you must rid yourselves of all
such things as these: anger, rage, malice,
slander, and filthy language from your
lips.10:7 -- His mouth is full of curses and
lies and threats;
trouble and evil are under his tongue.
 Ephesians 4:29 -- Do not let any
unwholesome talk come out of your
mouths, but only what is helpful for building
others up according to their needs, that it
may benefit those who listen.
 LORD, who may dwell in your sanctuary?
Who may live on your holy hill? 2 He
whose walk is blameless
and who does what is righteous,
who speaks the truth from his heart
 3 and has no slander on his tongue,
who does his neighbor no wrong
and casts no slur on his fellowman,
.
 It is up to each of us to control our tongues
 If our tongues can be trained to be wicked,
they can be trained to be righteous.
 If they can be taught to flatter, they can be
taught to give genuine encouragement.
 It they can be taught to curse, they can be
taught to bless.
