La Trompette Alliance Française de Grosse Pointe Lovely crêpe celebration at Cornwall Bakery Chef Freeman and his team wowed the wall-to-wall crowd for our Fête de la Chandeleur. We enjoyed cooking, flipping, eating and mingling with the crowd in an intimate setting. Spotlight on Beginner Conversation (French immersion): in the current class, each student has adopted a francophone African country and they speak every week on different things they have learned about it. So, Irene Lentine (above) brought in a spectacular carved ivory tusk from la République Démocratique du Congo for everyone to touch and marvel over. It was generously loaned to her by Christiane Stein whose parents lived in what was then called the Belgian Congo. Check out our website for more information and registration forms. Cercle Littéraire Sometimes, we must change the order of the books we read. We’ve switched to l’Etranger by Albert Camus for our March 12th read because it is background info for the April 23 book: Meursault Contre-Enquête by Kamel Daoud. May 21 our selection is Le Malade Imaginaire par Molière. Discussions take place on a Saturday at 10am and are usually over by 11:30. Discussions are led in French. We welcomed newcomer James Combs last month! For more information, please contact Sarah Ollison at firstname.lastname@example.org Marche du Nain Rouge Unfortunately, we had to cancel the bus and t-shirts orders for the Nain Rouge March 20th because not enough people signed up. The event will still be taking place downtown however. Those who paid were refunded their monies. Celebrate la Francophonie in March! The whole month of March our nation celebrates everything French….our ethnic roots, food, beverages, clothing, objets d’art, les films, les livres, la musique, la langue et patati et patata. Tell us how, in some way, YOU celebrated Francophonie this month and if you include a photo, that would be even better! We would love to share how we live and love and laugh with Francophonie in our Trompette. Send to email@example.com with Francophonie in the subject line. Merci beaucoup! Interested in an AF Board Position? Step up! Step up! We are actively looking for people to fill positions on the Alliance Française de Grosse Pointe Board in May. Your board plans the activities for the year and we brainstorm about future ideas. And we are a congenial group ;}. If interested, please send us a resumé to firstname.lastname@example.org and tell us why you would like to volunteer to be on the board. We meet once a month and have need of organizers, computer skills, party planners and, of course, those with a passion for French!
